Help Kids and Teens Get A-Plus!

At Flex, we believe you’re never too young to start get an A-plus in wellness. And there is no better way to ensure your children follow in your footsteps than by involving them in regular physical movement.

To ensure Flex provides for the entire family, we have again launched our fun and creative AntiGravity Aerial® Classes for kids 6-11+ and a new term of super-inspiring Pilates sessions, for 11+ only.

“At Flex, we have always been great believers in encouraging regular, enjoyable exercise habits young, so that they stay with you for life,” says Flex director Heather Thomas Shalabi.

“That’s why kids and teens at Flex get access to all our state-of-the-art equipment, our highly trained instructors and bright, friendly studios, just like the adults.”

When it comes to Pilates, Heather adds that no one understood the importance of exercise for all than Joseph Pilates himself.

“As a child, he was sickly and weak and it was in a large part because of this struggle that he discovered the benefits of regularly working out intelligently and effectively,” she says.

Pilates was a man who was inspired by children’s innate flexibility and ease of movement and how they then often morphed into stiff and inflexible forms as they age.

And with Hong Kong kids and teenagers hunched over desks, books and technology almost 24-7, it’s no wonder more and more parents are reporting that their kids suffer from back or spine issues.

But now, it’s also official. In 2018, the Chinese University of Hong Kong reported that Hong Kong’s youngsters were given a D grade for their overall physical activity levels (https://www.cpr.cuhk.edu.hk/en/press_detail.php?id=2964&t=cuhk-releases-2018-hong-kong-report-card-on-physical-activity-for-children-and-youth-making-comparisons-with-48-countries-and-regions-around-the-world&id=2964&t=cuhk-releases-2018-hong-kong-report-card-on-physical-activity-for-children-and-youth-making-comparisons-with-48-countries-and-regions-around-the-world)

At Flex, we don’t want your child to become that Grade statistic, because there are options for every child.

As Heather explains, one of the best elements for kids and teens working out at Flex is that it is an unthreatening, non-competitive environment for all ages to have fun and find the physical and mental release of movement, especially with the modern-day pressures so many of them face. This goes for sporty kids as well as those with a disinterest in organised sport.

And if there’s one things kids love, it’s hanging around! That’s why so many of them can’t go past our AntiGravity Aerial® sessions, a method from the US which encompasses yoga poses in the super-strong yet soft fabric of the Harrison Hammocks.

Get them involved in Suspension Fitness, which is a great complement to sports, Aerial Performance (11+) which builds weekly on a creative performance routine, and the Just Kids (6-8), an ideal intro course for the little ones. Classes are held Wednesday to Saturday after school hours.

Kids/Teens from 11+ can join the Pilates offerings, Friday afternoons and Saturday mornings. Term fees are HK$2080, with a first-time drop in price of HK$280 per child.

Now is the time to get them involved. They will thank you for it later!
