The Workout
When you choose a Pilates instructor or facility, you’ll find it helpful to understand which “school” of instruction your trainer is associated with.
The primary first-generation instructors, often referred to as the “Pilates Elders”, and those ‘descended’ from them, belong to the Classical method. This type of pilates strives to be as close to the teachings of Joseph Pilates as possible. Second generation teachers are those who studied with one or more of the Elders to keep Pilates’ work and spirit alive.
Contemporary Pilates, while still based on the work of Joe Pilates, has been modernized by adjusting the exercises to fit with the latest in medical research, physical therapy and biomechanics. Many exercises remain the same, but new ones or variations have been added to make space for injury rehabilitation and instructor creativity.
Pilates Trio sessions are a fantastic way to use all Classical equipment (Wunda Chair, Tower, Reformer, Mat and Barrels) in a small group setting. Classes are taught with a dynamic and fluid flow, while still affording personal correction from the instructor. Trios are offered according to practitioner levels, so clients receive the workout appropriate for their bodies.
Reformer Quartets follow the Classical Pilates sequence by level, and offer personalised attention in a small group setting. Fully immerse yourself in the Reformer FLOW, to both refine your current practice by properly learning Classical sequencing and transitions, and thus advance your practice.
Pilates Trio classes have a capacity of three and Reformer class capacity is set at four.
We suggest you leapfrog your practice by joining the 6-week Introduction to Beginner Reformer course or Introduction to Classical Apparatus course. We highly recommend you also take a Private Pilates Assessment so we can make the best recommendation for your practice.
Clients who would like to attend Intermediate reformer classes have to be well-versed in the Beginner series on our unique Pilates equipment. So even with prior Pilates experience we recommend to start with Private sessions or Beginner Reformer classes.
Mastery of the Beginner sequence is required before moving onto Intermediate I level classes.
If you have prior Pilates experience it will probably take you less time to move onto Intermediate I level classes. You can speak to the instructor after the class to ask if you are suitable to join a different level class., or continue taking some Beginner classes to master the Beginner sequence.
Please contact our team with details and we can assess your suitability for group classes. We recommend that you book a one-off Private Pilates Assessment and take you through a series of exercises, and tailor a program that is suitable for you.
Congratulations on your pregnancy or the recent arrival of your baby! Starting Pilates can be a great way to stay active and promote overall well-being during and after pregnancy. Here are some general guidelines:
During Pregnancy:
If you were practicing Pilates before pregnancy and have a low-risk pregnancy, you may be able to continue with modifications or join our Prenatal classes.
If you’re new to Pilates or haven’t exercised regularly before pregnancy, please consult with your healthcare provider.
After Giving Birth:
Please consult your healthcare provider to get the OK to begin exercising. We recommend scheduling a Private Pilates Assessment to begin.
Remember that every pregnancy and postpartum experience is unique, so it’s crucial to listen to your body and seek professional advice to ensure your safety and well-being throughout the process.
