Why barre workouts are great for poise, grace and confidence…AND a chiseled body!

Take the discipline of dance and the principles of Pilates, add weights, a barre, and high-energy, meticulous instructing and tadaa!, you have a serious ballet workout. Rockell Williamson-Rudder, International Director at Xtend Barre in Sydney, shares her thoughts on what makes Xtend Barre in particular, such a unique and beneficial workout.

I joined the Xtend Barre company in 2010 and it’s hard to believe where the time has gone! I was first attracted to Xtend Barre as it was the only barre workout that added more cardio and functional movement to the traditional barre moves.

The classic moves from ballet like pliés and battements, as well as the discipline of dance along with the strong principles of Pilates, are part of our foundation. We have from there built a repertoire of hundreds and hundreds of exercises – our body of repertoire is so vast that no two classes are the same, so the mind and body are always challenged. Unique to Xtend Barre and particularly beneficial are the Black Swan Arm series for stunning arms, Travelling Pliés for toned thighs and Powerful Plank series for a strong core.

Postural awareness is one of the first things people notice. Knowing how to hold your body and work from your centre, or core, in functional movements helps create that poise, grace and confidence that as women we all want to feel.

Also working with your own body weight for resistance, or our small weights and props, streamlines the body instead of bulking. And the wonderful thing about the Xtend Barre workout is it can be amplified or modified, and can really help clients recover and get strong after certain injuries.

Our research and development team are always looking for the best ways to add in new, challenging material. Fusion programmes include Xtend Suspend©, which is our TRX programme married with the Xtend repertoire, our Xtend Barre Fit using the Fit Ball, Roller and Release using rollers for exercise and myofacial release and our bootcamp class Circuit 7. There are also Xtend Yoga Flow adding a touch of Zen to the class and Xtend Stride© specifically for runners, by runners.

I really believe there is something very special about Xtend Barre. Beyond the workout being so carefully designed to tick so many physical boxes, it is also a lot of fun. The music is pumping, you are led by energetic and encouraging instructors and the overall positive energy surrounding the company is addictive in the best possible way.

We have over 150 locations around the world! And the thing I love most about Xtend Barre is the network of truly amazing women attached to the brand. I am inspired constantly by our owners, instructors and clients. It’s wonderful to know that Xtend Barre© resonates with so many people and they do truly fall in love with the Xtend Barre© experience.
