Essential Oils are a Gal’s Best Friend!

Essential Oils are a Gal’s Best Friend!

As a trained aromatherapist and an Arvigo practitioner, Jenny Ostling of The Sanctuary, has been fascinated at how she might combine the two healing modalities to be able to provide further healing benefits to her clients. She has done a lot of recent research into how essential oils can help with various women’s issues.

Essential oils are such powerful substances that even just a wiff of one can immediately uplift and energize. Not even chocolate can do it that quickly. I have cured an uncountable amount of things from fevers, headaches and cystitis to eczema, burns and bites using essential oils. So what is it about these little bottles of magic that make them so incredible? To put it really simply, they are all the good stuff from nature’s pharmacy condensed (by various methods) into a healing elixir.

So which essential oils should we have in our collection to alleviate various women’s reproductive health problems?  Here are my top 5 picks and why:

1. Geranium (Pelargonium graveolens)
This sweet smelling but overpowering oil is a wonderful hormone balancer. It supports the adrenal cortex that balances hormone levels. So it is great for helping conditions such as Endometriosis, PCOS, Dysmenorrhea, Amenorrhea and Menopause. Geranium also relieves stress, anxiety and depression making it the first choice for PMS.

2. Clary Sage (Salvia sclarea)
This herbaceous oil has long been used as a women’s remedy.  Its analgesic action helps to relieve menstrual cramping while at the same time it acts as a uterine tonic and stimulant.  It promotes menstruation when it is scanty, delayed or completely absent.  It is hormone regulating as it works to support the pituitary gland making it a great oil for any hormone related conditions such as Menopause. Emotionally, it helps to relieve stress and anxiety bringing more clarity of mind.

*As it promotes menstruation, Clary Sage should be avoided in cases of excessive menstrual bleeding.

3. Cypress (Cupressus sempervirens)
Cypress is all about moving on while instilling strength and wisdom. It is known for being an oil for getting the circulation moving in our bodies whether it be blood, lymph, nerve or chi. It helps to regulate the menstrual cycle and relieve painful periods.  It is great for excessive bleeding during menses (Menorrhagia), Dysmenorrhea and Menopausal problems.

4. Roman Chamomile (Anthemis nobilis)
Energetically Roman Chamomile works to promote the flow of Chi, which is important for relaxing the nerves, relieving spasms and easing pain. This gentle oil has an anti-inflammatory action and is an all rounder for most female reproductive disorders including painful or irregular periods, Endometriosis, Menorrhagia, Uterine Tonic, Vaginitis, Vulvar itching and Menopausal problems.

5. Rose (Rosa damascna or Rosa centifolia)
Rose is said to be ruled by Venus and is known to be a powerful aphrodisiac. It has been used for centuries to treat female gynecological problems. Rose essential oil helps to gently tonify, cleanse and purify the uterus while having a regulating effect on the menstrual cycle. It also works to stimulate blood circulation. Rose is a symbol of femininity and is a beautiful nurturing oil for every stage of a woman’s life.

I incorporate these and many more essential oils into my treatments with the comfort of knowing that they will help further healing in all my clients. Give these powerful essences a try and experience the incredible healing benefits for yourself.
