Originating from a technique created by Joseph H. Pilates more than 70 years ago, Pilates movements are based on proper breathing techniques, which activate core stabilizing muscles, segmental articulation of the spine, organization of the shoulder girdle and ribcage, and proper postural alignment of the spine on lower extremities. The result is a strong, long, lean body that displays notably improved flexibility, balance, coordination and posture.

Private Pilates and GYROTONIC®

Private Pilates instruction is offered in Flex’s apparatus room, which contains a full range of specialized Pilates equipment. Sixty-minute sessions are conducted privately (one-on-one), semi-privately (two-to-one) or as private groups up to three people. Following the studio’s core philosophy to make every training session a positive and productive one for all clients, individual needs are carefully monitored by our highly experienced team of instructors.

During the first session, the client will be given an Assessment, during which time the instructor will note posture and alignment, strength and flexibility, as well as the client’s fitness goals and medical history. From this information the instructor will create a personalized workout program using Pilates apparatus including the Reformer, Cadillac, Combo Chair, Ladder Barrel and other small props. Together, the instructor and client will outline specific goals for specified intervals, i.e. one month, three months, etc. so the client is aware of his/her progress.

Private GYROTONIC® sessions are also offered. The GYROTONIC® Expansion System incorporates three dimensional and circular movements to mobilize the spine and joints. Natural, continuous movement patterns are performed on the Pulley Tower to tone muscles optimally, through the rhythmical contraction and release of opposing muscle groups.
